About Kitchenpowers

Kitchenpowers connects local Ethiopian women who love to cook with people living in Addis Ababa eager to discover the local cuisine through delivery of meals and personalized cooking classes.

Kitchenpowers stands for

Empowerment of women

Through offering their cooking skill in the form of ready cooked dishes or private cooking classes, selected women in the Ethiopian community gain autonomy and independence. Other than a first economic milestone, we plan to include cooking classes to enrich the women's knowledge and improve their employability.

Substainability and community impact

From the ingredients to the delivery, the Kitchenpowers processes are designed to be sustainable and to create a long living impact in the whole community. Women earning autonomy are a positive impact on their surroundings, family, equals and offsprings and with time we hope to bring together more members of the community.

Intercultural exchange in Addis Ababa

Not only shall food trade hands, but also culture and knowledge exchanged. We aim to bring the Expat and local Ethiopian community closer together for the benefit of both.

The idea for Kitchenpowers stems from the acknowledgement of a low employment rate among Ethiopian women, and is intended as a means to foster female empowerment within the Ethiopian society.

Addis Ababa is one of the biggest capitals of Africa, and many international organizations have their offices there. Therefore, a huge expats community exists, which is made up of people who are eager to get to know better and come closer to the Ethiopian culture. Kitchenpowers works as a platform, which allows the encounter between experienced female Ethiopian cooks and expats, who are looking for (private or group) Ethiopian cooking classes. Kitchenpowers will also allow customers to order Ethiopian food online, which will be delivered to their home. Moreover, in order to exploit to the fullest the exchange of cultures promoted by Kitchenpowers, the platform will also allow internationals to volunteer to teach Ethiopian women how to cook some dishes, traditional of their own country of origin.

Kitchenpowers will represent a source of income for the Ethiopian women who will be part of the network, and will also allow them to enhance their cooking skills (and thus their employability elsewhere).

The team behind Kitchenpowers consists of three young people, connected through passion and interest for cuisine and female entrepreneurship.
